Nevertheless, she grew up as an extremely independant woman, who knew exactly what she wanted. History, as a way to broaden her horizon, she determined would be her main subject of interest as she went to the university of Oxford.

One summer, to avoid yet another wearisome stay at the Appleby residence, she decided to sign up for a temporary position as a research assistent. This meant she had to travel to a town called Luz, in France: quite an undertaking for a young woman alone!
