Developer Diary - 13 January 2010Developer Diary - 13 January 2010

Sometimes it feels like the creation of Adam's Venture, is as big an adventure as anything we can come up with for our hero: since Richard, Vincent and myself founded this company we've been on a continuous rollercoaster ride. But still those early months remain quite dear to me:

The fall of 2008 marked the start of our studio, and while we were working hard to set everything up, our office was temporarily located in this historical building. Which was absolutely great: we got to drink beers on the roof, and even found some time to do a nice little photoshoot of our team at the time. (The above picture being the only one in which everyone kinda behaved at the same time...)

Unfortunately the place was being renovated, which meant we had to move our office to different parts of the building about four times to avoid the drills of the building crew. It shouldn't come as a surprise when I say that the intense (and I mean - INTENSE -) noise they made, caused us quite a bit of trouble when we tried to make subtle tweaks to the audio for Episode I.

Then halfway through postproduction we'd had enough, and decided it was time to end the nostalgia and move to our current office. A small word of advice for anyone trying to move a company: heavy lifting is, well, heavy!

Of course with a great new office, comes a great responsibility: we had to actually finish our "Search for the Lost Garden"! Legend has it that the last 20% of a project usually takes up 80% of the time, and we can absolutely confirm this. Countless are those nasty moments when you realize something along the lines of: "if only we did this so-and-so from the start!!"
(these realizations were often accompanied by so much weeping and gnashing of teeth to sanctify at least this subtle bible reference)

Then, in the midst of night (ok, let's be honest here...the sun was almost up), a single beam of light shone in our exhausted imaginations and there it was: the one Build to rule them all! We were finally able to go gold, and deliver our very first release candidate to our publisher.

And the crowd went...to bed, seeing as we were all totally exhausted.

Signing off now as well, it has been a delight writing this first edition of our developer diary. I hope it will brighten up your day, if only just a little...
